How, where and when the course takes place
The course will be held in English at the University of Ottawa (550, rue Cumberland, Ottawa, Ontario) and consists of two intensive 5-day sessions.
The curriculum combines theoretical modules with practical design exercises and laboratory testing.

MODULE 1:
The aim of the module is to provide a solid understanding of wood as a material, structural design concepts, calculation codes, and the design of structural elements.

MODULE 2:
The aim of the course is to offer a more specific and high level knowledge than the previous one, with in-depth studies on CLT structures, Timber Frame, durability.

FAQ
What are the application deadlines?
The application deadline is 21st October 2026 for the FIRST SESSION and FULL PACKAGE, and 7th April 2027 for the SECOND SESSION.
Can I register for only one session?
Yes, you can also register for a single session by choosing between First or Second session.
What is included in the price?
The price includes participation in the course, coffee-breaks, lunches on all course days and 3 dinners.
What is not included?
The travel to get to the location of the course, the accommodation, the transports and meals and activities during the free evenings are not included in the price.
How long does the course last?
The complete course consists of two sessions, each lasting 30 hours over five days (Mon–Fri).
What happens if I cannot participate?
First session and full pack: if you cancel at least 30 days before the start of the first session, you will receive a full refund. After this deadline, 50% of the fee will be retained.
Second session: if you cancel at least 30 days before the start of the second session, you will receive a full refund. After this deadline, 50% of the fee will be retained.
When do I have to pay for the course?
Payment must be made upon receipt of the invoice, which will be issued within 2 weeks of registration.
What knowledge is required to attend the course?
A basic knowledge of structures is recommended. Prior experience with timber structures is not required, as the course starts with basic topics and goes through to more advanced design concepts.
Will I have the opportunity to meet the speakers and other participants?
Yes, in addition to the course, several networking activities will be organised both during the course days and on some selected evenings.
Where will I stay during the course?
Accommodation is not included. Participants are free to book accommodation that best suits their needs. A partner hotel with a special rate will be recommended closer to the event date to facilitate logistics and networking; however, this is not mandatory.
