The goal is to learn how to build a timber structure in a workmanlike manner in the Tropics.

Real case studies, challanges and solutions, innovations, protection of the costruction site, corrosion resistance and many other fundamental tips to avoid issues in the design and costruction phase.

Explore the potential of Mass Timber architecture in Tropics and don't stay behind.

The course takes place in an area where timber is quickly becoming part of the culture. It is quite a unique chance to get a wide knowledge on the theory and practice of a timber buildings in the Tropics.

CONTENTS

Explore different costruction systems (CLT, Glulam, Hybrid structures) and find out from case studies and examples how to succesfully use timber for your designs. Understand the advantages of the different connections, the installation methods, the structural and fire resistance.

Also the following content will be fully explored: waterproofing, airtightness and wind-tightness, acoustic solutions for timber structures, fire design, the laying and choice of membranes and the correct taping to avoid durability issues. The main topics are followed by practical laboratories.

  • Design in the tropics: corrosion, UV, protection of the costruction site
  • Hybrid structures
  • Waterproofing and airtightness
  • Innovative connections
  • Case studies and practical experiences

AUDIENCE

  • Carpenters who want to get a deeper know-how on timber construction, governing well both theory and practice.

  • Construction companies who want to train their workers through a practical and theoretical course (avoiding or reducing time-consuming training on the construction site).

  • Construction foremen and project managers.

  • Designers who want to touch the timber building site and understand its construction details.

  • Students and those looking to get into the world of mass timber costruction
