STAINLESS STEEL SCREWS FOR WOOD WITH 60° COUNTERSUNK HEAD FOR ACIDIC WOODS AND EXTERNAL FAÇADES SHS AISI410

SHS AISI410 stainless steel screws for wood: martensitic steel for outdoor use on acidic woods, façades and window and door frames

SHS AISI410 stainless steel screws for wood are manufactured from AISI 410 martensitic stainless steel — the type of stainless steel offering the highest mechanical performance. This characteristic makes them the ideal choice for outdoor applications on acidic woods such as oak, chestnut, English oak, Douglas fir and maritime pine (pH < 4), environments in which carbon steel screws corrode through reaction with tannins.
The 60° countersunk head and the 3 THORNS tip allow precise insertion without creating openings in the timber, even on small thicknesses: the Ø3.5 mm version is ideal for fastening cladding boards and tongue-and-groove boards, while the Ø6 and Ø8 mm versions are designed for outdoor structures made from acidic and high-density woods. Also suitable for fastening façades and window and door frames.
The SHS N AISI410 black version is specifically designed to match charred wood façades, ensuring visual appeal and corrosion resistance over time. Available for service classes SC1, SC2 and SC3, with CE ETA-11/0030 certification. Suitable for outdoor use, far from aggressive agents such as chlorides and sulphides. Bit included in the box.

Description

SHS AISI410: high mechanical performance, 60° geometry and a complete range for every timber application

AISI 410 martensitic steel distinguishes the SHS AISI410 from other stainless steels: compared with austenitic A2 (AISI304), it provides higher mechanical strength — tensile strength up to 20.1 kN and yield moment up to 20.1 Nm for the 8 mm diameter — while maintaining adequate corrosion resistance for non-marine outdoor environments.
The Ø6 and Ø8 mm diameters cover structural applications on acidic woods such as oak (pH ~3.9), European chestnut (pH 3.4–3.7) and Douglas fir (pH 3.3–5.8): characteristic thread withdrawal values reach up to 8.08 kN for the Ø8×160–280 mm version, in accordance with EN 1995:2014 and ETA-11/0030. Also certified ELC-4645 / ESR-4645 for the North American market.

The SHS N AISI410 black variant has been specifically developed for charred wood: the black coating matches charred timber façades, ensuring long-term aesthetic durability. For Douglas fir, the minimum distances parallel to the grain must be multiplied by a factor of 1.5 in accordance with EN 1995:2014. The SHS AISI410 stainless steel screw with small head is available in diameters from 3.5 to 8 mm and lengths from 40 to 280 mm to meet every outdoor timber fastening requirement.

Which stainless steel screws for wood should be used outdoors with acidic woods such as oak or chestnut?

For outdoor acidic woods (pH < 4) such as oak, chestnut, English oak and Douglas fir, the SHS AISI410 is the correct choice: AISI 410 martensitic stainless steel provides adequate chemical resistance, unlike bright zinc-plated carbon steel screws, which corrode through reaction with tannins.
AISI 410 is martensitic, not austenitic like A2 (AISI304) or A4 (AISI316): it offers higher mechanical strength than austenitic grades but lower

resistance to chlorides. For this reason, it is suitable for outdoor use away from the sea, but not in marine or industrial environments where chlorides and sulphides are present.
