GIRAFFE: the temporary wall prop for CLT wall assembly
GIRAFFE is the temporary wall prop for prefabricated timber framing systems. It is positioned directly on the wall and adjusted in length using the handle on the 6m version, or bolts on the others. Once fastened to the top of the wall and anchored to the floor slab below, fine adjustment is achieved by rotating the prop. The thread on the top and bottom plates allow the wall to be aligned perfectly plumb. With the GIRPLATECLICK plate, fastening at the top is achieved with a simple click, eliminating the need for a ladder to fasten the plate with additional screws.
It is installed in the upper third of the wall, at an angle between 30° and 60°, and fastened either to a timber floor slab with HBS PLATE Ø10 screws or to a concrete slab using SKR Ø12 screw anchors.
The screw load capacities are determined according to EN 1995:2014 and EN 1993:2005, in compliance with ETA-11/0030, and apply to both compression and tensile forces.
Versions, materials and load capacities of CLT wall assembly wall props
GIRAFFE is available in five versions ranging from 1.0 to 6.0 m. It is manufactured in galvanised steel in three models – including one fixed at 45° – and in two versions made from extruded 6060 aluminium. Adjustment is carried out in two stages with an automatic locking mechanism on the 3.0 m version. The 6.0 m aluminium version is designed for two-storey CLT wall assemblies, with Rmax up to 59.4 kN.
The GIRPLATECLICK plate enables fastening on the upper third of the wall without the use of ladders.
The GIRHOLDER element allows the neat and efficient storage and transport of up to 20 wall props.

How is a CLT wall prop for prefabricated timber framing systems installed?
GIRAFFE is positioned in the upper third of the wall at an angle between 30° and 60°. The prop length should be selected according to the size of the element, the type of floor slab and the magnitude of the load. Using the “GIRAFFE Calculation File”, it is possible to calculate wind loads acting on the wall and determine the number of props and fastenings required for each application.
Props for two-story CLT walls: Which GIRAFFE version should I use?
The 6 m version is designed for panels extending across two storeys, with lengths up to 6.0 m and an 80×80 mm extruded 6060 aluminium profile.
The Rmax capacity ranges from 59.4 kN at 3.0 m deflection to 7.0 kN at 6.0 m. This version is also suitable for tall glulam timber columns.

Unlike a floor slab prop, GIRAFFE works diagonally against the wall and absorbs both compression and tensile forces along its axis.
The Rmax values already include the safety factor. Screw fastening to both the wall and floor slab must be verified separately using the support file (“GIRAFFE Calculation File”).
