RAPTOR: CLT PANEL LIFT PLATE FOR CROSS LAMINATED TIMBER (CLT) PANELS AND MASS TIMBER STRUCTURES ON SITE RAPTOR

Safe CLT panel lifting in mass timber construction with the RAPTOR lifting plate

The RAPTOR plate is the Rothoblaas device designed for lifting cross laminated timber and mass timber elements on site: safe lifting and transport of horizontal and vertical CLT panels, solid timber or glulam beams, prefabricated wall panels and ribbed or modular structural elements.
RAPTOR provides a maximum working load limit of 3,150 kg per lifting point. Certified in accordance with Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, load capacity values are calculated in accordance with EN 1995-1-1/NA and ETA-11/0030, with a safety factor of 4.0. The red coating improves visibility and protection on site.
The plate is adaptable to a wide range of load configurations: it works effectively under both pure tension (β=0°) and shear loads, with any chain inclination up to 60°. The 6 holes allow three installation options: with 2, 4 or 6 screws, to suit the weight and type of element being lifted from a CLT floor panel to a modular mass timber assembly.

Description

RAPTOR: three screw configurations, reusable screws and a working load limit of up to 3,150 kg for mass timber crane rigging

RAPTOR is installed using 2, 4 or 6 screws of the same type and length, arranged symmetrically on the element. The 6-screw configuration provides maximum strength and load capacity (up to 3,150 kg with VGSPL11240 at β=0°); the 2- or 4-screw configuration is suitable for CLT panels and lighter timber structures. For horizontal lifting, the effective screw length must comply with the ratio lef ≥ 0.7·d to prevent splitting failure.
Compatibility with VGSPL structural screws (reusable) provides a tangible economic advantage: unlike VGS and HBS PLATE screws (single-use for lifting), VGSPL screws can be recovered after handling and reused for subsequent operations, reducing waste and project costs. RAPTOR can also be used as a temporary anchor point.
RAPTOR is part of the complete Rothoblaas range for the transport and lifting of mass timber and timber construction elements: RAPTOR MINI, RAPTOR, RAPTOR MAXI and WASP.

How is crane rigging for CLT panels carried out safely on site??

RAPTOR is secured to the panel with 2, 4 or 6 screws of the same type and length, arranged symmetrically and observing the minimum edge distances (a3,C ≥ 60 mm, a4,C ≥ 60 mm). The screw length must be at least 0.7 times the depth of the element (lef ≥ 0.7·d).
The crane hook is connected to the CLT panel rigging device and the element is lifted carefully, observing the permitted lifting angles (β ≤ 60°) and the maximum tabulated load capacity. When tilting vertical CLT walls from a horizontal position, ensure that the lower edge is securely supported. The absolute maximum working load limit is 3,150 kg: R'WLL must never exceed this value.
