RIVO aluminium rivets: technical specifications

RIVO is an all-aluminium blind rivet, with its mandrel, body and head all made of aluminium, a material that provides weather resistance and maintains its structural performance over time. It is suitable for environments with atmospheric corrosivity categories C1, C2 and C3.

Fastening strength depends primarily on the underlying sheet metal rather than the component fastened above it. Strength values increase with the thickness of the roofing sheet and level off at thicknesses of 1.50 mm and above. For this reason, the thickness of the corrugated metal roofing or insulated metal panel is the first parameter to check during the design phase.

Of the two available RIVO blind rivet diameters, the 7.7 mm version provides higher strength than the 6.3 mm version: approximately 30% greater shear strength and 67% greater tensile strength in steel applications. It also accommodates a total grip thickness of up to 9.5 mm.

The strength values and geometry of RIVO aluminium rivets are documented in ETA-25/1169, with characteristic values calculated in accordance with EN 1993-1-8:2010 and EN 1999-1-1:2014 for steel and aluminium sheet metal.

How do you fasten a lifeline to corrugated metal roofing using blind rivets?

The anchoring device is secured to the top of the corrugated metal roofing or insulated metal panel using RIVO blind rivets installed from above. Component I is the element beneath the rivet head, such as the anchoring device plate, while Component II is the underlying sheet metal. Both components require a pre-drilled hole of 6.50 mm for the Ø6.3 mm rivet and 8.00 mm for the Ø7.7 mm rivet. The EPDM washer seals each hole. The number and arrangement of rivets must follow the anchoring device installation instructions.

Are waterproof rivets suitable for exposed roofs?

Yes. RIVO sealed rivets feature an EPDM washer with a watertight seal beneath the dome head, an essential requirement for fall protection systems installed on top of roofs. The mandrel, body and head are made of weather-resistant aluminium, suitable for atmospheric corrosivity categories C1, C2 and C3.

How do waterproof rivets work and what tool is used to install them?

The pop rivet is inserted into a pre-drilled hole passing through both components. The riveting tool pulls the mandrel, which deforms the rivet body on the opposite side, clamps the components together and then breaks off once installation is complete.
